Our very own scarecrow spent the fall at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. Ms. Heli Ann Thus has returned to Briarlake and can be seen in our Briarlake teacher gardens near the 3rd grade addition. Stop by to see this beautiful art.
The scarecrow is designed to resemble a female caricature of the common sunflower. The latin name for the common sunflower is Helianthus which is her name, "Miss Heli Ann Thus" . She was created by Ms. Donna Moody as well as the butterfly. The Briarlake Jr. Garden, along with Ms. Christy Kramer, assisted Ms. Moody with the creation of "Miss Heli Ann Thus" by painting, collecting/washing bottle caps and drilling each bottle cap into the scarecrow. Other items used to create "Miss Heli Ann Thus" were green soda bottle bottoms cut to resemble flowers along the lower part of her skirt, her eyes were made from the top portion of green soda bottles, the center part of the green soda bottles were cut into a triangle and used for the back stem leaves. Miss Heli Ann Thus carries a brand name Capri-Sun purse and flaunts the most magnificent earrings made from chandlier crystals.
