Scheduled Activities and Events for 2010 - 2011

Reflections - Fall Reflections takes place during the fall semester. Students prepare an entry in visual arts, literature, music or photography. Entries are judged at the local level, with the top winners in each category moving on to the next level(s) of competition (i.e., county, state, and national competitions). The theme for 2010-2011 is "Together we can."

Ice Cream Social - Sept. 14 - Yum, Yum, Yum....Stop by tonight for a scoop of ice cream and get to know other parents and our staff at the first big social event of the year. Of course, the kids can come and enjoy some delicious ice cream too!

Briarlake Walk to School Days - 9/16, 10/21, 11/18, 12/9, 1/27, 2/24, 3/24, 4/28 - All families are encouraged to walk to school. Dates coincide with Chick-fil-A and Stevie B's Spirit Nights.

Chick-fil-A Night, Sept. 16, Nov. 18, Jan. 27, Mar. 24 Several evenings during the year Briarlake families are welcomed to the Chick-fil-A at the corner of N. Druid Hills Road and Briarcliff Road for dinner. This is a fun time to get together with other Briarlake families. A percentage of the food sales is donated back to Briarlake.

International Walk to School Day, Oct. 6 Promote fitness and friendship. This "international" awareness day encourages all students to walk to school.

Fall Festival, Oct. 16 A fun atmosphere of games, food, haunted house and crafters market. This is one of favorite events of the year! Would you like to sell your crafts at the Fall Festival. Click here for the information/registration form.

Stevie B's Spirit Night, Oct. 21, Dec. 9, Feb. 24, Apr. 28 During the year Briarlake families are invited to dine at Stevie B's at Northlake for special "Briarlake Nights". . Briarlake families enjoy dining and celebrating Briarlake Spirit together. Please join us for these fun gatherings. A percentage of the food sales is donated back to Briarlake.

Campus Clean-Up Days, Oct. 23, Feb. 26 and more Several times each year Briarlake invites parents, teachers, students and the community to help spruce up around our school. Please join us and let's keep our school grounds looking great!

Science Night - Nov. 16 A fun family night organized by our science club.

Book Fair, Nov. 17, 18, & 19 A Scholastic Fair in the fall where students and parents can shop for books.

Thanksgiving Lunch, Nov. 18 & 19 (County must approve these dates) Enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving lunch with your child(ren) and be thankful for our wonderful school. PTA provides the pie.

Holiday Program, Dec. 7 An evening of music by the PreK-third grade will delight your ears.

Book Sale, Feb. 4 & 5 A used book sale open to the community - books collected in January.

Storyteller Night, Feb. 15 Enjoy a family night with a fabulous storyteller

Kindergarten Round-up, Feb. 25, 9am Briarlake staff and administration provide information for upcoming kindergarten parents about the kindergarten program at Briarlake. Meet the teachers, get a glimpse into what kindergarten is like, provide all the paperwork required to enroll your child and meet other kindergarten-to-be parents.

Briarlake Healthy Habits Fun Run, Mar. 5th The Fun Run is open to all Briarlake families and the community. Walk or run the 5K or the 1 mile. Let's all get healthy!

Art Auction Gala, Mar. 26 This fun night of dinner, music, live and silent auction is a crowd pleaser! Our generous community really pitches in.

Field Day, Apr. 29 Classes spend the day outside with their teachers and peers participating in a variety of athletic and fun events.

Book Character Parade, May 6 A special day of dressing up like your favorite book character. All students dressed as their favorite character will enjoy a stroll up and down the halls of Briarlake sharing their book and character.

International Fair/Family Picnic, May 10 Our spring celebration and family night when many cultures are celebrated with food, fun and information. Our signing club performs.

Awards Day, May 17 and 18 A morning to celebrate the achievements of all of our students.

Ongoing PTA Activities:

Terrific Thursdays - Throughout the year, treats like lunch, breakfast, dessert are provided to the staff as our thank you for all they do. Each classroom will coordinate this event with their parents once during the year.

Special Programs - Throughout the year many programs have been planned for our Briarlake students. These are brought to the school by our Cultural Events Committee. Programs take place during the school day.

Be sure to join the Briarlake PTA! A proud and longstanding Briarlake tradition is to have 100% participation in our PTA. We are great supporters of our school and we hope you will join us. It is only $5.00 per adult but that money will go a long way toward helping our school. Memberships will be available at Open House, Curriculum Night or you can send your name and money (check written to Briarlake PTA) in an envelope to Christy Van Horn, our PTA membership chair.

THE BIG BLUE BIN IS IN...

Mixed paper is now being recycled at Briarlake. This company known as Pratt Industries will accept newspapers, office paper, colored construction paper, magazines, and cardboard. Please DO NOT include staples, laminated paper, or envelopes with windows or metal clasps.
