| Greetings Briarlake
Families, |
Well, we are amazed that the first
semester is over...our kids are older, (so are we), our kids
have learned a lot and have been inspired by our talented
teachers, we had lots of fun and we have survived our
rough patches...together. No matter what holiday you
celebrate..."the holidays" are about being together, and
telling those whom you love how grateful you are for
them. Over 'the holidays", may you all be safe,
healthy and happy and be together with those you love
most! We are grateful for each and everyone of
you! Happy Holidays!! See you next year!!
Deadline for donated clothes for Mrs. Nunn
and her family is tomorrow morning-by 8 am.
Tomorrow is the last school day for
students this semester. School resumes Tuesday, January
5, 2010 for students. See you then! Remember to
read a little bit each day.

Briarlake Spirit Night at Stevi
B's
Wow! Is all we can
say. Briarlake really showed it's spirit in the
most attended Spirit Night ever! See pictures in
this month's Beaver Bulletin.
Thanks to everyone
who came to support Briarlake at our first Spirit Night
at Stevi Bs! We raised almost $150 for
Briarlake! We came in droves
and showed what a wonderful school community we
have.
Congratulation to
Mrs. Foege's 2nd grade class for having the highest
classroom participation.Stevi Bs is awarding the
class a pizza party!
Stevi
Bs was such a hit, we are doing it again on
Thursday, January 14! Watch for
details.
Thanks again to Irenea and
Michelle! |

Kindness |
Thank you so much for responding with such
love and kindness to our dear Mrs. Nunn and her
family. As you know, she and her entire family
escaped a fire last week that completely destroyed their
home and all of their belongings. They escaped
with only their pajamas... Our Briarlake family
responded within minutes (literally); bringing in pink
coats, shoes, ladies clothing and much more. One
family in particular showed why Briarlake is so great.
Randall Kirsch, dad to Miles in
pre-K, received a call from his wife, Amy asking him to
donate his band's "tip-jar" proceeds for the night to
the Mrs. Nunn fund. You see, Randall plays in
a rock and roll band, called Penny Western,
featured monthly at Tin Roof. He and his band mates
collect extra money in their "tip-jar". During the
night, last Friday night, Penny Western collected $180
in "tips" for Mrs. Nunn and her family. If that's
not an example of Beaver Spirit, we don't know what
is... thank you!
PS...Penny Western is an awesome
band. They play classic rock and roll from 7-9 pm,
and it's child-friendly. Here's their schedule for
the next two months: Saturday, January 23 and
Saturday, February 27--7-9 pm.

| Track
Club |
Congratulations
to Lindsey Blackmore, Benjamin Blanck, Riley Cook, and
Ben Wise for braving the cold and completing the
Henderson Mill Elementary School 1 Mile Fun Run on
Saturday, December 5th. A special
congratulations to Riley Cook who was awarded a third
place medal for the 2-3 grade boys division.
The entire Briarlake Track Club was awarded a
plaque for the best participation. We
had the most participants from the other area
schools.
Our
track club will "officially" start after the holiday
break to train for our own Briarlake 5K in the
spring. Please be on the lookout for
information to come home soon. We do
have several Briarlake Track Club shirts available for
purchase. Please contact Mrs. Blackmore
if you would like one.
Hope
you have a wonderful and active holiday!

Blackmore and Ms.

| Monarchs Across
Georgia: Books needed |
As some of you know, I (Mrs. Spencer) will be
heading to Michoacan, Mexico in February to visit the Monarchs
overwintering in the Transvolcanic Mountains of Mexico.
These incredible insects migrate over 2,000 miles from the
southern borders of Canada and from all parts east of
the Rocky Mountains to Mexico. While in Mexico, our
group will visit schools in rural Mexico with limited
resources. We need your support to meet our goal of
bringing elementary-level books written in Spanish to the
students who are taking care of the Monarch butterflies in
Mexico. Please consider making a donation to the
Environmental Education Alliance (EEA) designating it to the
"Mexico Book Project". Your check can be sent to school and
given to Mrs. Spencer before school lets out for winter
vacation or to the address below between December 18-31.
You may also receive a letter acknowledging your
tax-deductable donation if requested. As a
reference, books generally cost about $5.00 in American
currency. Your gift will make it possible for us to
pre-order books through Scholastic Mexico and they will ship
them to our hotel in Morelia so that we may deliver them to
the students during our visit. In appreciation for
your donation, a bookplate with your name will be attached to
the inside cover of each book. We will also recognize
each donor by sending you a
certificate and publishing your name on the website at www.monarchsacrossga.org. if
requested. The deadline is December 31, 2009.
Please mail checks after December 18th to:
Mexico Book Project c/o Trecia
Neal
2433 Kingscliff Dr.

Atlanta, GA 30345. A donation
form will go home in the Friday courier
envelopes. Thank you for your support.
