Team News |
Our team is so excited
about Arbor Day, which is celebrated on February 19th in
the state of Georgia. Since Briarlake wants to get
in on the action, we are going to have our PreK class
plant another tree on that day. We will also start a
compost bin, with worms!
Please visit our Tree of
Knowledge by the cafeteria doors. Everyone is invited to
help it grow, by writing a tree fact or quote on a leaf and
attaching it to a branch. Happy Arbor
Day!

guide instruction and school improvement efforts. Each

facilitate the school improvement process for our schools.

| School
Council |
The
Briarlake School Council met January 28th and discussed many
opportunities to improve Briarlake. Safe Routes to School was
discussed and several projects are in the process of being
implemented to aid students in walking to school safely.
One possibility is to create a sidewalk off Briarlake Rd. that
will cut behind the fence connecting to the sidewalk out from
the cafeteria, to completely eliminate foot traffic in the
carpool and parking lot area. Thank you to the Safe
Routes team for keeping our kids safe!
The success of the Parent Portal
was also discussed and several parents commented on how they
utilize the Portal and find it very beneficial. Ms.
Jenks discussed Student Achievement and Standardized Test
results. Ms. McMillan discussed the 2009-2010 Consolidated
School Improvement Plan which is extensive and will benefit
all students.
School Council elections for next year are coming up. Our
school council works to:
Maintain a school-wide perspective on issues;
Regularly participate in school council meetings;
Participate in information and training programs; Act
as a link between the school council and the community;
Encourage the participation of parents and others within
the school community; and Work to improve student
attendance, achievement and performance. School
Council meetings are open to the public. The remaining
meetings are as follows: Thursday, 3/25, School Council
Meeting @ 1:00pm Thursday, 5/6, School Council Meeting @
1:00pm
Look for the meeting minutes
on the Community News Bulletin board in the front
hallway. Thank you to our School Council members for your
time, energy and effort to make Briarlake
GREAT!
