Briarlake Families, |
CARPOOL REMINDERS
Morning Carpool- Please
- no left
turns into our driveways
- alternate cars entering the drop off area at the
top of the driveway
- keep your children in the car until they are at
the front door area
Afternoon Carpool Update- Carpool
Drivers....
1) If you arrive
before 2:20, all cars should line up in the left lane.
Leave the right lane open so that cars parked in the
lower parking lot can get out.
2) The carpool caller
(usually Sally Elliott) will signal to the carpool
drivers when it is time to use the right lane. We will
use both lanes until the end of
carpool.
3) Please share this
information with anyone who picks your children
up.
FYI
- please do not park and get out of your vehicle
while in the carpool lane
- no left turns into our driveways
- help us by displaying your carpool name
signs until your child is in your car
- please try to pick up students by 2:45.
All Briarlake Parents/Guardians:
Do Not Park in
the Driveways. If you need to check your
child out early, please try to do so by 2:00 pm.
Thanks for helping our carpool
work!

BRIARLAKE BETA CLUB GIVING
PROJECT Again this year the beta club will
be collecting food bags in support of the Children's
Healthcare of Atlanta-Egleston Food Donation
Program. The Social Work Department at CHOA
believes that providing meal assistance to parents of
patients who do not have the financial means to purchase
meals is an important service to offer so that
parents/guardians can receive necessary nutrition while
their child is in the hospital setting .Therefore,
Children's Social Work Department coordinates a food
donation program and welcomes contributions.
HOW YOU AND YOUR FAMILY CAN
HELP Food bags are gallon sized Zip-lock
bags filled with non-perishable, microwaveable,
pre-packaged food items that do not require a can
opener. A breakfast bag could have
pop-tarts, breakfast or granola bar, envelope of
oatmeal, small box of cereal, fruit cups, and a juice
box. A lunch or dinner bag could have
microwaveable soup, pasta, or rice, Ramen noodles,
packages of crackers or cookies, microwaveable popcorn,
chips, or a candy bar. Each bag should
contain enough items (4-5) for a complete meal. There
are many additional food items available now that are
non-perishable and ready to heat and eat. Look for them
in your grocery stores. Please consider
joining us in our Giving Project. We invite you to bring
your food bags to the Briarlake Family Thanksgiving
dinners on November 19 and 20. We will also be
collecting the entire week from November 16 -20.
There will be a box in the front lobby. We thank you
for your support and wish you the happiest of holiday
seasons!

Break Time
Approved! Great news! On November 2, the DeKalb
County School Board voted to adopt the recommended
policy change on unstructured break time in elementary
schools at the formal request of several Briarlake,
Brockett, Fernbank and Livsey Elementary school
parents. The new policy requires that all school
children in grades K-5 get at least 15 minutes of
unstructured break time each day as part of their school
day. Dr. Culbreath and Ms. Jenks have been out
front supporting parent interest in this and modifying
class schedules to accommodate this break at Briarlake
since the beginning of this year. Please thank
them for making this possible, and serving as a model
for the County and the School Board. We are
excited that all the county schools will benefit from
this change. To read the new policy go to https://eboard.eboardsolutions.com/ePolicy/policy.aspx?

| Holiday
Program |
It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year"
volunteers needed! Tuesday, Dec. 1, for the Holiday
program. We need parents to corral students
in the "holding areas" at the church, until time to walk
on stage and make sure students get to the correct
sitting area on stage. You will need to arrive no
later than 6:00 p.m. The show starts at
6:30. You will not miss the program.
Please email Ms. Goodwin and let her know if you
can help. She will most likely need a "lead"
parent to assist her with all the volunteers, and come
to the rehearsal at school the day of the show (12/1) to
practice. Let her know if you are able to be the
"lead".
We also need a truck that can help move the risers
to the church Tuesday afternoon (between 12-2) and then
transport the risers back to school Wednesday
morning. If you have a truck and/or can help with
the risers PLEASE let Laurie Hobbs @
jhobbs9@bellsouth.net know. The program is the
Tuesday after Thanksgiving break, so it is coming
fast!

| Book
Fair Coming soon--Get Ready to Read |
Briarlake, are you ready to
Read Around the World? The Scholastic Book Fair is coming
to Briarlake beginning Wednesday, November 18 and running
through Friday, November 20.
The Fair will be open
before and after school and during the Thanksgiving Lunches on
Thursday and Friday. This is a great opportunity to get some
new books, get started on your holiday shopping, and help out
our teachers by purchasing books from their "Wish Lists" - and
a portion of the proceeds stays at Briarlake! A letter will be
sent home soon outlining details. If you'd like to help
your child's school (it's a lot of fun, you get a 10% discount
and you get to shop while you work!), contact Randy David-Faigin. Come on, we
need your help! Get ready to READ!

| Green
Team News |
Briarlake will continue to collect
cell phones and their chargers, headsets, and
accessories, all year long. The collection box is
near the front doors. These phones will benefit gorillas
from the Democratic Republic congo area. What
an easy way to reach out and help another part of the
world.
Ms. Berry, our librarian, is
collecting batteries all year as
well. We hope many of you are enjoying
the morning walks to school. Our safety patrols are
ready to punch a hole in your walking
cards each week. This is Week 6. Remember
to walk or bike to school at least one day each week to
get your card punched for that week so that at the end of
10 weeks we can enter your card into a raffle for a prize.
Walk to Win!
Thank you
Green
Team!

| Running
Club |
In
preparation for Henderson Mill Elementary School's fun run we
will be doing our track club for the month of November. We
could do it on Tuesday afternoons from 3-4pm. With the
short notice, we will need support from parents to make it
happen. The dates would be November 10, 17, 24 and
December 1.
So from parents, we need a healthy
snack provided for each day (we typically assign 2 families to
each practice) and 1-2 parents to come to each practice to
help hand out stickers and assist in setting up our
water.
Parents need to send in a
note to Whitney Blackmore giving your child
permission to participate.
Sorry for the late notice! Please see below for a
link to sign up for the run.

Blackmore
