Greetings
Briarlake Beavers,
|
Oh my goodness...was that the BEST
Fall Festival EVER or what? The day could not have
been more perfect, the sky was a brilliant blue, there
was a slight breeze and the sun was shining
bright. Everywhere you looked children and
families were laughing and smiling. The day was a
complete success and lots of money was raised for our
school. None of this would have been possible with
out Angela Pilcher or Carolyn Hansen..."Thank You"
doesn't really cover all the time, energy or effort you
both gave. Just know, how much we appreciate the
wonderful day and memories you gave us. THANK
YOU!!
*Remember: NO school this
Friday, 10/9 or Monday, 10/12. It's Fall
Break and Columbus Day! We hope everyone enjoys
the rest and relaxation!
*Beaver Bulletin deadline is
TODAY!
*So, we should have added "swim"
to the list of ways to come to school on "National Walk
to School Day". Despite the rain, thunder and
lightning , many families joined in the fun and spirit
of the day and arrived wet, but with smiles on
their faces. Adaptability is a great life
lesson. Thank you to Coach Cocks, Sarah Cook
and Susan Mancusi-Ungaro for coordinating this
effort. See below for details about the rest
of the month.
*Look for your Thanksgiving lunch
order form and Mr. Turkey Beaver. It's time
to plan to eat a bountiful Thanksgiving lunch with your
kids. November will be here before you know
it. |
| Fall Festival
Thank yous... |
Our "thanks" is so great that
we need another week to compile the complete
list. It took so many people to pull this event
off. We don't want to leave anyone
out. Get ready for one huge list...it may take a
week to get
prepared! |

Sally Foster Orders
Arriving - Tuesday, Oct 13 Sally
Foster orders will go home with your
child on Tuesday, Oct. 13 (after the
long Columbus
Day weekend). Getting items home
safely: * All items for your child's order will be
packaged in a cardboard box with a carrying handle, so
it can be carried easily. * If you have a large
order, your child may have several boxes. Please
make arrangements to help your child home with
their boxes! * If
your child takes transportation to an area
childcare facility, please check that they will be
allowed to take their boxes on the aftercare
bus. Other reminders: * Check
your order right away. If you have any
issues, please use the order-error form that will be
enclosed in your box (Errors must be reported by
Thursday, Oct. 22). * Prizes that your
child earned from the Sally Foster prize brochure will
be included in their order. * If your order includes
chocolate, DO
NOT leave them in the
car! Our fall Atlanta weather can still
melt chocolates. Thanks to the Green Team
who will collect Sally Foster boxes and
electronics to recycle on Friday,
October 16 during
morning carpool. They make it so
easy... you don't even have to get out of your
car! We appreciate
everyone's help! Irenea Seufert and

coming Spring. |
| Science Club
Update |
|
The Briarlake 4th and 5th grade
Science Clubs are now in full swing, with more than FIFTY
students participating in exciting hands-on science activities
twice a month. Our students have built geodesic domes,
solved a virtual cruise ship outbreak, planted a cool weather
vegetable garden, studied potential and kinetic energy by
building marble runs (which were on display at the Fall
Festival), and learned how to amaze their friends and families
with "magic tricks" based on Bernoulli's Principle.
Today's acitvity involved
Bernoulli's Principle: Imagine 25 kids blowing ping
pong balls, balloons, paper, dimes, cocoa puffs, etc. around
the room!
Many thanks to our parent
volunteers, especially Debbie Dotson, Wendy Turner, Sarah
Fuoto, Tracy Wehunt, Kathleen Peters, Michelle Bishop and
Felicia Smith, whose support and dedication have made this
club possible. We are still looking for guest
scientists who would be interested in sharing their expertise
with the club and helping us with a hands-on science activity.
Please contact Susan Duderstadt if you are interested
at sudude@pol.net. |
| What a
friend we have in Briarlake Baptist |
What a great day....What great
results we were able to achieve working together for the good
of a place we all cherish so much. Very special
thanks to everyone! We were able to accomplish so much (see
list below). A special thanks to Stephanie Byrne, Rodney Webb,
Christy Kramer and Sheryly Hilliard. And a big shout out to
Sarah Rigby and Laurie Hobbs who went above and beyond from
the beginning.
Again,
Thanks and we hope to work with you all again next

| Green
Team--Carpool Collection |
What a great time we had at the
Fall Festival. It was wonderful to see so many people
enjoying the day. Green Team members
Bill Wright, Susan Duderstadt and Heidi Blanck were
especially thrilled to see the huge success of the famous
Marble Run. The Briarlake community has many budding
engineers. Chemists were also very busy creating
their own non-toxic cleaning solutions. Thanks to
all, the Green Team had a blast at the
Festival. It was also great to see so many
walkers on International Walk to School Day. Even in
spite of the rain, we had alot of happy healthy walkers
enjoying their soggy hike to school. It's pretty cool
knowing the rest of the world was walking
too. The Green Team wishes to support the Safe
Routes to School Committee with the walking cards.
Please try to walk or bike to school as often as you
can. A safety patrol will be watching, and ready
to punch a hole in your walking card when you arrive to
school. So carry those cards with you. At the end
of 10 weeks, we will collect the cards to put in a
drawing to win a raffle prize. So it's Walk to Win
! Our juice pouches are really adding
up. We get 2 cents for every pouch, so keep
them coming. Sometimes the bin makes its way into the
cafeteria. If you don't see it just inside the front
doors, then look for it there. Thanks so much for
filling it up. The landfills are certainly feeling a
void. Our next big event is on Friday,
October 16th. Please recycle your Sally Foster boxes
and any electronics. The Green Team will greet you in
the morning carpool lane to receive your goods. You
don't even have to get out of your car. The list of
electronics accepted is found on the following link:
www.decaturga.com/cgs_citysvcs_sfm_electronics.aspx We
look forward to seeing you out walking and dropping off goods
for recycling. Thank you, The Green
Team |
