Greetings Briarlake Beavers,
We have a lot going on in the next few weeks! Read all about it!

Please also enjoy reading our September Beaver Bulletin, it is filled with great news and information.

DCSS has provided a flyer to inform parents and staff on the steps the district has taken on H1N1.
Fall Festival
FALL FESTIVAL COUNTDOWN...
TWO WEEKS TO GO!
"Vol _nteer" - The only thing missing is U!"  Please volunteer to staff a game, inflatable, craft or help with the food on the day of the festival.  We currently have dozens of openings from both 10:45-1:30 and 1:15-4:00.   Please contact Vanessa Erens today with your shift of choice.

The Fall Festival has new hours this year.  Make note that it will begin at 11am and end at 4pm.  The craft show opens one hour earlier at 10am.

Fill out those ticket order forms that were sent home last Friday.  Purchasing tickets early gives you more tickets for the same price and that means more fun!  Be sure to buy more tickets than you think you need because you'll use them all and then want more!
We are in need of EZ-ups (those pop-up canopy tents) to provide shade for the children's craft and auction areas.  If you have any to lend, please contact Carolyn Hansen.

There are sponsorships available for the fall festival.  If any parent or business is interested in sponsoring the Fall Festival contact Tonya Roberts.

Thanks so much.  We are looking forward to another wonderful Fall Festival with our Briarlake families and the community!

SALLY FOSTER

"Toad-Ally Awesome" Sally Foster News

We are busily tallying sales and we are looking good to match/surpass our sales from last year!!!

Class party winner, top 2 sellers, and Fur Bus riders will be announced shortly.

The fabulous "Fur Bus" will be taking students who sold $150+ for a ride on Wednesday, Sept. 30 (in the morning).  Look for a permission form in your child's backpack in the next couple of days.  A signed permission form is required for your child to ride the Fur Bus.  (If you do not receive a permission form and you feel your child qualified, please let us know.)

Planning ahead -  Sally Foster orders will go home with your child on Tuesday, Oct. 13 (after the long weekend).
* Prizes that your child earned from the Sally Foster prize brochure will be included in their order.
* If you have a particularly large order, please make arrangements to help your child get their order home.
* If your order includes chocolate, remember not to leave it in the car!
* If you child takes transportation to an area childcare facility, please check that they will be allowed to take their boxes on the aftercare bus.

Thanks to the Green Team who will be helping us collect and recycle the boxes that week (more to come from the Green Team on days boxes will be collected)!

We thank you all very much for your generosity and support!

Ice Cream Social
ice creamWhat a wonderful turnout for the Ice Cream Social on Tuesday!

Thank you to Heidi Carpenter & Lisa Moore for organizing this great event and thank you to all those volunteers who set up, scooped, and helped clean-up. We had so many attend that we ran out of ice cream -what a good problem to have! We apologize to those who came later and did not get any but we appreciate your understanding and will certainly make note of this for next year!
Campus Beautification
Come join us THIS WEEKEND - Saturday, September 19th as we beautify the campus for Fall Festival.9 am - 12 noon.
NEW FAMILY FUN ACTIVITY
Please join us on Saturday, September 26th at Adams Stadium (North Druid Hills Road) to cheer on our Lakeside High School Vikings as they take on Chamblee Tucker.
The game is at 7pm - plan to meet at the stadium to tailgate at 6pm. Look for the white tent with green, white, and purple balloons.  Wear your Briarlake or Lakeside shirts and lets show our support for our high school!  Any questions please contact Lisa Moore.

International Peace Day - September 21st

Parents and members of the community are invited to help Briarlake celebrate the International Day of Peace on Monday, September 21st. At 8:30 a.m., all staff and students will meet in the front of the school to "plant" the peace flags they made in art.  Then at 1:30 p.m., everyone will assemble in the cafeteria for our peace rally.  Parents are encouraged to attend both events with their child/children.   In case of rain, we will display the flags on Tuesday morning.

We look forward to this annual event.  We are proud to be a "No Place for Hate" school and hope our 400 flags make a statement to the community and anyone who drives by.  What a colorful site it will be!! Won't you join us?

PTA Membership
We still need a few more memberships to meet our September goal so if you haven't signed up please do so! And remember that grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, pets (OK not pets even if they think they are human)  can be members too!

Girl Scout troop # 25437 will be collecting eye glasses at the Fall Festival. We will have a box to collect all glasses.  They will be given to the Georgia Lions Lighthouse who provides assistance to those in need in our community by helping to pay for glasses or a visit to an eye doctor (among other programs).  The Lighthouse collects used eyeglasses (or sunglasses) for use in Operation Eye Care.  Donated glassed are washed, read and sorted by their volunteers.  They are then sent on mission trips to developing areas in the world.
Thank you,
Mrs. Francis
