| Playground
Update |
.
Hopefully many of you have seen the playground plans
posted on the Community Bulletin Board inside the
school. If you haven't please check it out. It has
lots of things to climb, spin, balance, and slide on and will
be a huge enhancement to the current playground. You
will also see our fundraising goal to make this new play
structure a reality. We have already raised nearly
$20,000 and have only $25,000 more to raise. With the
support of Briarlake families, friends, neighbors and
community businesses, we can achieve this goal. Several
Briarlake parents have been meeting to develop our fundraising
plan. You can help right now by supporting the Briarlake
5K on March 6th, the Spring Gala on March 27th, and our
fundraising campaign "Climbing Toward a Healthy Future" that
kicks off in April. More details coming
soon. | |

Ms.
Nunn
|
On
behalf of Ms. Nunn we'd like to thank our entire
Briarlake family and community for the overwhelming show
of love and support you demonstrated by collecting over
$3000 for Ms. Nunn and her family.
When speaking with Ms. Nunn, she can't find
words to express her gratitude and amazement in how
generous her Briarlake family was to her in a great time
of need. She is truly overwhelmed and thanks each
and every one of you from the bottom of her heart.
This is another example of how Briarlake is so
GREAT! Ms. Nunn has been able to transition to
another permanent home and is beginning to "get
settled". Ms. Nunn is most grateful for the
heartfelt well-wishes and prayers. We will
continue to keep Ms. Nunn in our
hearts.

electronic devices and cellular phones:
Toys/Games/Valuables
All
toys, games, audio and video items, excessive amounts of money
and expensive jewelry must be left at home. Such items are
distracting to the instructional program. Briarlake will not
be held liable for the loss or damage of any such property
belonging to the students. Teachers will collect these items
and they will not be returned to the student. Parents may
request to pick these items up from the school office. All

Name Calling Week |
January 25-29, has been
designated No Name Calling Week. We are asking all students to
give up name calling. Name calling is a form of bullying and
will not be tolerated. So remember if you can't say anything
nice then don't say anything at all. Please encourage students
to participate.

Briarlake Beta Club Souper Bowl of Caring
2010 The Beta Club will again be collecting
food bags in support of the Children's Healthcare of
Atlanta-Egleston Giving Project. This project
provides bags of food to the families who have children at
Egleston and are in need of extended care. The Patient and
Family Support Services Department at CHOA assists by
providing food for these families. They rely on charitable
donations to make this food available to any family that needs
it. HOW YOU AND YOUR FAMILY CAN
HELP Food bags are gallon sized Zip-lock bags
filled with non-perishable food
items. -
A breakfast bag could have pop-tarts, cereal bar, envelope of
oatmeal, packaged cereal, canned fruit with a pop top lid, an
individually wrapped muffin, and a juice
box. - A
lunch bag could have microwavable soup, pasta or rice, Ramen
noodles, packages of crackers or cookies, popcorn, chips, or a
candy
bar. - A
dinner bag could have canned tuna/chicken (or in a pouch),
canned vegetables with a pop top lid, individually wrapped
cookies or

Each bag should contain enough items (4-5) for a complete
meal. There are many additional food items available now that

Green Team News
The green Team hopes everyone had a wonderful break and
is enjoying this chilly weather.
We want to thank everyone for donating their cell phones
to help
Gorillas. Your phones have helped The Atlanta Zoo rank in
4th place
by a National Company called Eco Cell. Because
of this ranking, we have earned a higher rate
for every cell phone that will be donated this new
year. SO... keep
them coming! Since many of you have probably
received new ones over
the holidays, please remember to turn in your old
ones to the box by
the front doors. It is pretty awesome to know that we are
helping out
some of Mother Nature's finest in a global way.
Safe Routes to School >
Way to
Go Briarlake! Our 10 weeks of walking to school is
over. We sure ended on a cold note. I hope
everyone enjoyed their routes to school while bundled
up like eskimos. You may turn your
walking cards into the office. A marked box will be
available to place your cards in. We will then
draw a name from the box for a prize next week. Good
luck walkers and bike riders. Although, we don't
have to stop walking now. Let's keep
this walking party going. It is a new year and
a great way to get some exercise in while saving
money, fuel and the environment at the same
time.
