Dismissal Safety School Lunches ~ Directions to Briarlake ~ Questions about Briarlake ~ Math Log-In

Ms. Kari Cernoch is our 2012 Teacher of the Year!

IMPORTANT REMINDER FOR PARENTS!

School begins at 8:00 AM. If your child arrives after 8:00 a.m. you must bring your child inside and fill out a tardy slip. Also on very cold mornings we do not ask staff and patrols to stay outside opening car doors, so allow yourself extra time on those days. We have staff on duty to accept students as early as 7:30 each morning. Please realize that everyone cannot arrive at 7:55 and expect to be on time.

Grades
A report card shall be issued to each student each semester of the school year and shall indicate the progress in each course. Students in grades K-5 will have grades displayed by letter.

The grading scale for the DeKalb County School System will be as follows:
A 90 - 100 Excellent
B 80 - 89 Good
C 71 - 79 Fair
D 70 Passing
F Below 70 Failing

Dismissal Safety Reminders:

  • Dismissal begins at 2:30. It's important to remember we have lots of young people trying to get to their bus and/or car.
  • Keep the main lobby area clear of traffic.
  • Remind your children not to leave the school unattended.  If your child misses their bus, remind them to "go to the office or to their teacher and report that they have missed the bus", and NOT to leave the school.
  • Remind your children to get off the bus at their assigned bus stop, not a friend's.
  • As our children "mature" and become familiar with getting home on their own, they may make unsafe decisions.  Please remind them to never leave the school unattended.
Keeping our Briarlake Beavers safe is imperative!  Thank you for your support.

School Lunches:
  • If your child has milk allergies, please send a medical note so that a juice will be provided to your child. (see news above)

Attendance Verification; If your child is absent from school you will receive an automated call from the county. Upon returning to school, please be sure to send a note to the teacher stating the reason for the absence. It is NOT necessary for you to call the school when your child is absent.

Severe Weather Information... When severe weather creates hazardous conditions in DeKalb County regular school scheduling may be suspended, and advance preparation enables the DeKalb School System to cope with such situations. The first condition for making a decision to suspend school system operations is safety.
The decision for closing schools is made by the school superintendent. Information regarding the closing of schools is broadcast on local radio and television stations by 6:15 a.m. It is the parent's responsibility to monitor local news reports to find out whether the school system has closed in the event of severe weather.
