School Improvement Survey
As part of our school improvement efforts we have created a short survey on Survey Monkey that we would like all of our families to complete. Each family can complete it once regardless of how many children they have attending Briarlake.

We are asking that parents complete it within 1 week. The results will be compiled and used as we focus on ways we can improve. We will identify the results in our 2010-2011 Consolidated School Improvement Plan.

Thank you! Dr. Culbreath

We will not be sending home a hard copy as this would invalidate the data.

Don't miss this opportunity to be heard! Here is the link to the survey.

Class supply lists are available for the 2010- 2011 School Year.

School News

Added 7/31/10...Food Services will no longer be offering the fortified juice drink. We will only be serving milk products. What this means for parents & students is that if they have a milk allergy we MUST have a medical statement provided for the student, not a note from the parent. Once we receive the proper document indicating their allergy, we can then provide that student with a 4oz. juice instead of the milk. If the student's choose not to take the milk they will have to drink water and of course they are not required to take a drink at all according to the guidelines. For questions contact Mrs. Crabtree.

School Events

Curriculum Night..August 26th...This a parents only event so line up your sitter early. We have so much to learn at curriculum night and it is much easier when we can concentrate on the things being presented by our staff. Please be considerate of others and do not bring the children. We have many, many other activities for our children and families throughout the year.
Parents will have the opportunity to see the whole staff, to visit classrooms including art/music/PE/Discovery.

International Peace Day - The United Nations' (UN) International Day of Peace is celebrated on September 21 each year to recognize the efforts of those who have worked hard to end conflict and promote peace. The International Day of Peace is also a day of ceasefire – personal or political.

Red Ribbon Week is held in Oct. This weeklong campaign is planned by Mrs. Norris Brown, Briarlake counselor, to take a stand against drugs and promote a drug-free, healthy lifestyle.

MRS. BETH RICH, 4TH GRADE TEACHER, is our 2010 TEACHER OF THE YEAR

News from the DeKalb County School System - TBA when provided

IMPORTANT REMINDER FOR PARENTS!

School begins at 8:00 AM. If your child arrives after 8:00 a.m. you must bring your child inside and fill out a tardy slip. Also on very cold mornings we do not ask staff and patrols to stay outside opening car doors, so allow yourself extra time on those days. We have staff on duty to accept students as early as 7:30 each morning. Please realize that everyone cannot arrive at 7:55 and expect to be on time.

School Lunches:

Severe Weather Information... When severe weather creates hazardous conditions in DeKalb County regular school scheduling may be suspended, and advance preparation enables the DeKalb School System to cope with such situations. The first condition for making a decision to suspend school system operations is safety.
The decision for closing schools is made by the school superintendent. Information regarding the closing of schools is broadcast on local radio and television stations by 6:15 a.m. It is the parent's responsibility to monitor local news reports to find out whether the school system has closed in the event of severe weather.
