BOX TOPS
Continue clipping Box Tops.  Look for Box Tops on many different products, not just food. Bring them to school in August!

School Store Hours

Open Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays before school--7:35-8:00 a.m.   Volunteers needed!  Contact Ellen Kersh to help.

Entry to School
After the summer's break-in, the county installed a new front door entry system. This new system is a bit tricky.
To obtain entry when the front doors are locked, you must push the bell-button on the LEFT of the double doors, await confirmation from the office by speaker, listen for a click,& then quickly open the LEFT door.
The office staff does not have a remote-door- opener any more, so please be patient.

Quote of the Week

Playground Update-Mulch Help Needed
Playground Help Needed!
As you can see, the fantastic new playground equipment is installed and ready for the first day of school.  But, we have a huge pile of wood chips that need spreading to make the playground safe for play.  Join us this Friday, August 6,  from 6-7:30 pm, for a mulch spreading extravaganza.  Just bring shovels, rakes and wheel barrows and help us get the play space ready for next week.

Slides, and climbing walls, and monkey bars...Oh my!
2010   -   2011 Supply Lists
School Supplies
The supply lists for the 2010 -  2011 school year have been posted to the Briarlake PTA website.  Click here.  FYI - several items such as the Agenda will be available at Briarlake Open House on August 5th.
Nutrition Updates
Food Services will no longer be offering the fortified juice drink.

We will only be serving milk products.  What this means for parents & students is that if they have a milk allergy we MUST have a medical statement provided for the student not a note from the parent. Once we receive the proper document indicating their allergy we can then provide that student with a 4oz. juice instead of the milk.  If the student's choose not to take the milk they will have to drink water and of course they are not required to take a drink at all according to the guidelines.
For questions contact Mrs. Crabtree at Susan_A_Crabtree@fc.dekalb.k12.ga.us
Open House -Thursday, August 5th
We are asking that families with last names beginning with A - L visit Briarlake between 9 am and 12 pm.  Last names beginning with M - Z are asked to visit between 11 and 2 pm.  This staggered schedule helps with crowd control.

Open House allows our families to meet the teachers, join the PTA, purchase school spirit wear, fill out all necessary school forms and provide the proof of residency requirement.

Plan to purchase our new "Beaver-Pride" t-shirts-short and long sleeve, and new this year, embroidered polos!

Short sleeve t-shirts-$10
Long Sleeve t-shirts-$12
Embroidered polos-$16
Only check or cash will be accepted.

Proof of Residency Required for ALL students
Proof of Residency documents must include one of the following:
Current (June, July, or August 2010) utility bill (gas, electric, or water only - no phone bills);
Signed lease; or
Mortgage contract
Bring the original - no copies!

Please email the office if you will not be attending Open House so that we know you will be attending Briarlake this year. This helps with our planning for the year.

Open House/Registration Process
The Open House process goes as follows:  Upon entering the lobby, you will be asked to show proof of residency, then proceed down the hall to your child's grade level team-room (these will be marked).  If the information is available, you will be given your child's homeroom teacher assignment.  If the information is not yet available, the homeroom lists will be posted on the front windows before school starts.
In the grade level team-rooms, you will meet all grade level teachers, update child/family information, choose dismissal method, and receive other important information specific to the grade.
Next, proceed to the cafeteria.  You will be given a registration form upon which you can pay PTA dues ($5 per adult in home); purchase planners, spelling dictionaries, school directories, Yearbooks and spirit wear; make a classroom donation to assist homeroom teachers and give to the Child in Need fund.  As you make your way around the cafeteria you will have opportunities  to sign-up for After-Care, join the PTA, volunteer for PTA committees, sign-up for other after-school activities/clubs, and join the scouts.
There will be "greeters" available for any questions.
